Lighting Components Recycling

Veolia Environmental Services uses an advanced, automated, dry-separation process to separate lamp waste into glass, metals and mercury-contaminated phosphor powder.

Through our process, roughly 96% of total bulb weight is recovered as glass; 2% as aluminum; less than 2% as phosphor powder; and less than 1% as mercury for refining.  Phosphor powder is retorted or distilled by Veolia to recover hazardous mercury. Lamp ballast are separated by type and decontaminated as needed to remove poly-chlorinated biphenyls for recycling, incineration or disposal.
